Welcome to COB2HTML!

The COB2HTML is a COBOL to HTML converter program. This small java tool helps you to better and faster understand a COBOL source code. It creates a PERFORM calling tree and a Syntax highlighted HTML output. But this site try to be a COBOL programming source of information also. If you know COBOL, please write about it in our forum, or upload some example program.

What is COBOL?

COBOL was developed in 1959 by a committee consisting of researchers from private industry, academia and government and was heavily influenced by the work of Commander Grace Murray Hopper, considered the mother of Cobol. You can read more about Grace Hopper here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grace_Hopper

Hopper's belief that programs should be written in a language that was close to English rather than in machine code or languages close to machine code (such as assembly language) was captured in the new business language, and COBOL would go on to be the most ubiquitous business language to date.

The COBOL name is an acronym for COmmon Business-Oriented Language, defining its primary domain in business, finance, and administrative systems for companies and governments. The COBOL 2002 standard includes support for object-oriented programming and other modern language features. COBOL supports 90 per cent of Fortune 500 business systems every day and 70 per cent of all critical business logic and data is written in COBOL.
